YOUR
ACCOMODATIONS
Your Room
Every effort is made to provide you with the type of accomodations
you request. However, rooms are subject to availability. If you
are uncomfortable with the other patient assigned to your room, please
contact your nurse. If possible, a transfer will be made. Your room
assignment is based upon your admitting diagnosis and the bed availability
on the day of your admission.
Private (single bed) and semi-private (two bed) rooms are available.
Your medical insurance may not cover the full cost of a private
room. However, you may choose to pay the difference.
Your Hospital Bed
Hospital beds are electrically operated. Your nurse will show you
how to work your bed properly when you are admitted. Your hospital
bed is higher and narrower than your bed at home. Each bed is equipped
with rails, which are provided for your protection. They are usually
raised at night or during the day if you're resting, recovering
from surgery or taking certain medications.
Room Temperature
All rooms in the hospital are centrally heated and cooled. If your
room temperature is not comfortable for you, please notify your
nurse.
Calling Your Nurse
A button to call your nurse is located at your bedside. When you
press the button, the nursing station is alerted that you need assistance,
and a light flashes on above your door. A staff member will respond
promptly speaking to you on the intercom system or coming to your
room as soon as possible.
During the Night
Please stay in bed after you have been prepared for the night. Strange
surroundings and sleeping medications may create a hazard if you
get out of bed. For assistance during the night, use your nurse
call system.
Television
Television is provided free of charge in each room, except in the
intensive care unit. Please be considerate of other patients by
playing the television softly and by turning off your set at a reasonable
hour.
Telephones
Telephones are provided in each room, except on the critical care
units. Your family and friends may dial direct to your room any
time between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. Before and after visiting hours your
telephone is programmed to ring at the nursing station. It is important
that you are allowed time for uninterrupted rest while you recover.
For your safety and security we ask that you provide your family
members with the number to your room.
Local calls may be made at any time from the room by dialing 9 and
the number.
Long distance and toll calls can be made at any time by dialing
0. The hospital operator will connect you to an AT&T Operator.
You may use your calling card, credit card, call collect or charge
a long distance call back to your home number. We are unable to
charge long distance calls to your room or hospital bill.
You may purchase a phone card at the Information Desk between the
hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Leaving the Unit
It is important for your medical care to stay in your room each
day until your doctor has made rounds, written your orders and you
have completed any treatments or received any medications or tests
that have been ordered.
If you wish to leave the unit for any reason, please check with
your nurse. For your care and protection our nursing staff must
know where you are at all times.
