The Medical Staff
The physician who admits you is responsible for directing your care
and, as needed, orders tests, prescribes medication and recommends
special diets while you are in the hospital. If you have any questions
regarding your treatment program please contact your physician.
The Nursing Staff
Twenty-four hour nursing care is provided by a team of professional
registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and certified nursing
assistants (CNAs). A Nurse Director is responsible for directing
and coordinating nursing care on each shift and unit. Please feel
free to contact your Charge Nurse or the Director of your unit if
you have questions or concerns.
The overall responsibility for the quality of nursing care hospital-wide,
rests with the Chief Nursing Officer. Please feel free to contact
her if your concerns or questions are not solved or resolved to
your satisfaction. She can be reached at719-587-1203.
Pastoral Care Services Hospital Chaplains
We believe the healing process demands attention to the spiritual,
as well as the physical and emotional needs of each patient. Under
the direction of our Pastoral Care Coordinator, our volunteer Chaplains
are available to assist you, whatever your religious tradition,
24 hrs. a day. In addition, your priest, minister or rabbi is always
welcome to visit you while you are here. If you need the phone number
of your nearest spiritual caregiver of your choice, or if you wish
to have the hospital chaplain paged, please contact your nurse or
page directly at 719-852-6700.
Patient & Family Services
Patient & Family Services offers a broad scope of service to
patients and families. From discharge planning, dialysis and general
social work to trauma response and counseling or referrals to outside
resources.
We will help you obtain medical equipment, oxygen, home health care,
nursing home and rehabilitation.
Members of the department work with patients and families to help
deal with long-term illnesses and rehabilitation and are involved
in discharge planning such as equipment rental and home health care.
They can also help you contact hospice or Palliative Care Partners
for support with long-term illness or end of life issues.
If you would like to visit with a social worker, please contact
your charge nurse, or call 719-587-1350 and leave a message at any
time. Hours are 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday but requests for
help can be made to any nurse 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Rehabilitation
Part of your recovery may include treatment from Rehabilitation
Services - physical therapy, occupational therapy, and/or speech
therapy. These services will address problems with ambulation, walking,
transfers, balance, weakness, dressing, grooming, swallowing, speaking,
etc. Rehabilitation Services is available during your hospital stay
and also on an outpatient basis here at the San Luis Valley Regional
Medical Center. Our goal is to assist you in maximizing your functional
recovery. This service requires a referral from your physician.
Rehabilitation Services can be reached at 719-587-1272.
Other services available through Rehabilitation Services include
sports medicine, pulmonary rehabilitation, wound care, spine rehabilitation
and all other outpatient physical therapy services.
Also, Rehabilitation Services is connected closely with the Regional
Occupational Medicine Program (ROMP), which deals with Workmen's
Compensation injuries. We do functional capacity evaluations, work
site (job) evaluations, ergonomic evaluations and all other rehab
services.
The Regional Occupational
Medicine Program has doctors that are Level II Certified.
Housekeepers
A member of our Housekeeping staff cleans your room and bathroom
each day. If there is a housekeeping problem in your room, tell
your nurse, and it will be taken care of as soon as possible.
Other Personnel
During your hospital stay your physician may request diagnostic
tests provided by other health professionals who are here to assist
in your care. These include personnel from the Laboratory, Imaging
Services, Physical or Occupational therapists, and Respiratory Therapists.
