I've Been Diagnosed

Nearly every person has been affected by cancer. Whether you, a friend, a family member, or a neighbor has or has had cancer, there is a community of support for you in the San Luis Valley.

You will have many feelings after you learn that you have cancer: denial, anger, fear, etc. These feelings can change from day to day, hour to hour, or even minute to minute.

Take a Deep Breath

Take a deep breath. When you first learn that you have cancer, it seems like your life is suddenly out of control. It helps to focus on one step at a time (e.g., the next doctor's appointment) as opposed to thinking about everything that might happen in the months ahead.

Pull from the strength of individuals in your own community who have been diagosed with cancer.

Listen to Dorothy Hinson Brandt tell her cancer story.
