CAREER
OPPORTUNITIES & RECRUITMENT: NURSING
What
is nursing?
Nursing is a profession and a calling for people who are motivated to serve
others. They are the professionals most trusted by the public. Friends and
family come to them for knowledge, care and empathy during times of illness,
stress and bereavement.
Nursing
is an art and a science combined with compassion and caring.
A team provides your nursing care at the SLV Regional Medical
Center. This means Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses,
Certified Nursing Assistants, Technicians, Secretaries and others.
Hundreds
of individuals here in the valley have a special place in their
heart for a particular nurse or team of nurses who helped them
when they needed it most. You may not remember their name or
their face, but you will always remember that they were there
for you. Sometimes a special smile, a hand that is held, or encouragement
that you will feel better soon, are all it takes to help you
on your way to improved health.
Why
be a nurse?
Nurses touch the heart, the soul and the body of each patient. No other profession
touches people the same way as a nurse. Nurses care for those who are frightened,
confused, in pain and vulnerable. They feel privileged to serve. Although each
day is a challenge, and the work is physically and emotionally demanding, the
nursing career is also personally rewarding.
Nurses
find a wide variety of opportunities and career options, especially
in the San Luis Valley. Nurses have an opportunity for personal
and professional growth that few other careers offer. This occupation
comes with a Code of Ethics that govern professionalism, patient
advocacy, and nursing care standards.
What
does it take to be a nurse?
Knowledge, skill, integrity, patience, kindness and heart. Nursing goes beyond
training and education. Nurses have empathy, understanding and a cool head
in times of crisis. The patient is always their top priority. These are the
nurses of the SLV Regional Medical Center.
The
nursing profession begins with a genuine desire to serve and
care for others, combined with a sense of compassion and comittment.
Nurses must have excellent communication skills to work as a
team with physicians, clinical departments, family members, community
resources and more.
