Laboratory Services

SLVRMC's laboratory has three locations:

  • Hospital: 106 Blanca Avenue, Alamosa
  • Monte Vista Community Clinic: 103 Chico Court, Monte Vista,
    • 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday
  • Physician Services Clinic, PRO Center Lab: 2115 Stuart Avenue, Alamosa
    • 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday-Friday

The laboratory is open Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., for routine outpatient testing and staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week for inpatient and emergency testing. Our laboratory is inspected and accredited by the prestigious College of American Pathologists (CAP). The rigorous accreditation includes blind sample proficiency testing and regular on-site inspections.

The laboratory performs approximately 180,000 tests per year, with full-service capabilities in all areas, including:

  • Hematology
  • Chemistry
  • Serology
  • Immunochemistry
  • Transfusion medicine
  • Microbiology 

The personnel performing all testing are certified Medical Technologists, each with a Bachelor of Science Degree and a 12-month internship at a school of Medical Technology. The laboratory is overseen by Dr. Kendal Knaus, the Laboratory Medical Director. Dr. Knaus is board certified in pathology and is on hand to perform anatomical pathology on surgical specimens.

Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., for routine outpatient testing. No appointment is necessary.
