Mikaila Pence, MD
Mikaila Pence, MD, joined the PediatricClinic at SLV Regional Medical Center in 2011. She earned a bachelors in chemistry and a masters in biochemistry at the University of Denver, followed by medical school in Vermont and a residency in Kansas City.
Dr. Pence chose to go into Pediatrics because she enjoys the challenge of providing care for children of all ages and stages of development, newborn through adolescence. She especially enjoys working with parents as they experience the joys and challenges of raising their children.
Her interest in medicine began at the age of nine when she suffered a broken arm. The process of care she received near her small hometown of Conifer, CO, intrigued her. Later, watching her parents and grandparents try to navigate the healthcare system, her decision to go into medicine was solidified; it became her goal to help people understand healthcare and make good choices for themselves and their families.
Having grown up in a small town, Dr. Pence and her husband wanted to raise their two young daughters in the same atmosphere. Impressed by the friendliness of the people during her initial interview, they decided Alamosa would be a great place to live and work.
