Gregory McAuliffe, MD

McAuliffeGregory McAuliffe, MD, returned to SLVRMC in 2008 following seven years working for a large integrated health system in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Previosly he had served SLV patients from 1988 to 2001.

Dr. McAuliffe strongly supports the SLVRMC hospitalist program that provides 24/7 physician care for inpatients. "It allows me to focus on what I do best and that is seeing patients in the outpatient setting." Whether that is in St. Cloud or in Baltimore where he did his residency or in Alamosa, Dr. McAuliffe says the quality of the care should be fi rst rate. "I've always believed that when you talk about rural medicine, the only thing that should mean is the geography of where the medicine is administered. It should have nothing to do with the quality."

In 2010, he became Chief Medical Offi cer to serve as the liaison among the providers, hospital leadership and the SLVRMC board of trustees. But he has not hung up his stethoscope. "I am working 50 percent here [as CMO] and 50 percent in Internal Medicine, still seeing patients. I like to keep people from getting sick; to maintain their health or improve their health. The very favorite thing for me is the longitudinal care, the years and relationships with patients."
