What is Materials Management?
Materials Management has been defined as a service oriented department design to manage the supply procurement system from acquisition to disposition Included are the analysis, planning, implementation and control of systems and programs designed to achieve quality customer service, maximum cost efficiencies, standardization and simplification.
These services are our contribution which in turn enables our customer to make exceptional healthcare personal and possible.
A primary purpose of Materials Management is to provide user units with the supplies, equipment and services that are required to maintain the highest level of patient care possible.
Goals and Objectives
- To purpose all supplies, equipment and services in a fair and equitable manner, ensuring the highest degree of cost-effectiveness achievable.
- To ensure the uninterrupted flow of patient care by obtaining and ensuring delivery of acceptable quality goods and services at the right time and price.
- To develop reliable primary and alternate sources of supply to meet the demand.
- To maintain adequate inventory levels of high volume supplies to meet the demand and the timely processing/delivery of related supply requests.
- To handle emergency collection and disposition of supplies or equipment affected by medical device/product safety alert notification from manufacturers and/or the Director of Materials Management in accordance with the hospital policy/procedure.
- To implement the recall and coordinate the disposal of outdated sterile and defective supplies.
- To conduct business professionally and with unimpeachable ethics.
- To maintain an exceptional reputation within the vendor community through fair business practices, treating all prices and technical information submitted as confidential.
- To follow the policies and procedures established by SLVRMC.

Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
