ONCOLOGY & INFUSION SERVICES
Oncology/Infusion Center offers cancer diagnostic services, treatment programs and support services for cancer patients. Our diagnostic services focus on early detection and cancer prevention through education and promotion of healthy lifestyles.
For those with cancer, the Center provides care as directed by an individual’s oncologist and local doctor. The Oncology/Infusion Center works as a member of this three-part health-care team to provide state-of-the-art treatment.
Support services for cancer patients include rehabilitation, palliative care and other services as needed to meet patient and family needs. At SLV Regional Medical Center, our mission is “Making exceptional healthcare personal.” We strive to achieve this by combining the expertise of a highly trained staff with the best in personal attention.

Our diagnostic services focus on four areas of concern:
- Breast cancer screening using mammography and clinical exam.
- Cervical cancer detection via Pap tests.
- Colorectal cancer screening using tests to identify blood in the stool and follow-up of all positive tests using colonoscopic or endoscopic colorectal screening.
- Prostate specific antigen (PSA) screening test for early detection of prostate cancer.
Additionally, our center provides tests and screening for many other types of cancer including, but not limited to, melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer and ovarian cancer.
SLV Regional Medical Center offers two traditional treatments, chemotherapy and surgery.
Chemotherapy treats cancer with drugs that are designed to destroy the rapidly multiplying cancer cells. Chemotherapy may be used to cure or control cancer, or to relieve symptoms that cancer may cause.
Chemotherapy drugs are infused slowly over several hours. The Oncology/Infusion Center offers a comfortable homey place to receive infusions. Family is welcome. Soothing music, puzzles and books are available. A warm fireplace and a small kitchenette allow patients and their families to feel at home in the Center.
Sometimes chemotherapy is the only treatment a patient receives. More often, however, chemotherapy is used in addition to surgery or other treatments.
Surgery is the oldest form of treatment for cancer. Surgery has an important role in diagnosing and determining the extent of cancer. Advances in surgical techniques today allow surgeons to successfully operate on a growing number of patients. Surgery offers the greatest chance of cure for many types of cancer, especially those that have not yet spread to other parts of the body.
SLV Regional Medical Center has four operating rooms and a new patient and family-friendly waiting room. The hospital’s three competent and qualified general surgeons have a total of 43 years of experience.
SLV Regional Medical Center’s PRO Therapy (Performance, Rehabilitation, Orthopedics) offers assessment programs and recovery programs for cancer patients. PRO Therapy has two therapists certified in oncology rehabilitation.
Strategies for rehabilitation may include:
- Exercises to maintain strength and endurance.
- Flexibility enhancement exercises.
- Orthotic and prosthetic interventions where needed.
Our approach includes adaptive lifestyle training for the individual, their family and other caregivers. When needed, our rehabilitation team will make suggestions for home modifications to facilitate daily life.
Palliative care aims to relieve suffering and improve quality of life for cancer survivors. SLV Regional Medical Center’s palliative care team offers medical, psychological and spiritual support from the time of diagnosis through post-treatment.
Palliative care services are available for the patient and for those who love and care for the patient regardless of the stage of disease. These services are offered simultaneously with all other appropriate medical treatment.
SLV Regional Medical Center believes that patient and family support are critical for those who embark on the cancer journey. Our experts can help navigate this path as smoothly and as comfortably as possible.
