MAMMOGRAM

For detailed information of the Mammography Patient Preperations click here

One in eight women will get breast cancer in her lifetime. Early detection is the key to improving your chance of surviving cancer and having more treatment options. Our goal is to assist you in locating any problems early whey they're most successfully treated. You owe it to yourself, your family and your friends to have regular yearly screenings.

What is a Mammogram?
A mammogram is the most effective way to detect breast cancer too small to be felt or seen. It consists of four low-dose x-rays. This test can detect cancer and other non-cancerous breast disease. It can detect breast cancer when it is very small - up to two years before you or your physician can feel it.

Personal Care
Our specially trained, all female staff, will always provide you with the most professional, courteous, compassionate care. Each of our Technologists have passed stringent examinations conducted by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. In addition, they have demonstrated advanced qualifications for certification in Mammography.

Pre-Mammogram Preparations

A mammogram is generally not painful, although some women may feel uncomfortable. A positive attitude is most important. We have found that only 1 in 30 women experience moderate discomfort during the exam. Although all women respond individually to mammography, most are able to tolerate any discomfort for the short period of time (3-7 seconds) it takes to complete the test.

To alleviate any discomfort, many physicians recommend taking two Tylenol or Ibuprofen tablets 1.5 hours before the exam. Discontinue all caffeine for one month prior to your test and schedule the test just after your period. All of the precautions make your breasts less tender and your test more comfortable. However, if you take birth control pills or hormone replacement therapy, your breasts may be tender and slightly swollen.

Do not apply any powder, deodorant, perfumes or lotions to your underarms or breast area. Many powders or deodorants contain small metallic fragments that show up on x-rays. Deodorant is always available in the Mammography Suite for your use after the test.

Your Personal Mammogram
We recognize your need for respect and privacy. While you wait in the Mammography Suite, the atmosphere is soothing and personal. From the colors and furnishings to the soft music playing in the background, our staff make every effort to create a relaxing atmosphere and positive experience for you.
