NUCLEAR MEDICINE

For detailed information of the Nuclear Scan Patient Preperations click here

Nuclear Medicine uses radioactive material to diagnose many conditions. Nuclear Medicine provides accurate images and valuable information for diagnosis and treatment and can detect a wide variety of diseases. The sooner these are detected, the sooner treatment can be prescribed. The Imaging Services Departments has the capacity to provide over 30 different procedures in Nuclear Medicine. The most frequently ordered tests are:

  • Bone Scans
  • Liver Scans
  • Biliary (gallbladder) Scans
  • Lung Scans
  • Thyroid Scans
  • Thallium Scans
  • Renal Scans
  • Testicular Scans

Our patients are injected with a very small amount of radioactive isotope. Different isotopes are absorbed in many different organs or tissuesof the body. The machine or camera can pick up these particles and take a picture of the organ. The radioactive material has a very short life and will die soon after that picture is taken.
