VOLUNTEER SERVICES COORDINATOR

Joyce Austin, Volunteer Services Coordinator, says "The volunteer experience is priceless. There is no monetary value you can attach to it. It's a wonderful experience to walk into the hospital and receive a friendly smile from a volunteer who is welcoming you. The purpose is to make your visit to the hospital (whether patient, friend or family) to be less intimidating or alarming. The volunteers primary function is to help the visitors and patients."

Some of the duties include staffing a new gift shop, giving directions to visitors, assisting visitors and patients to find their way around the facility. The hospital volunteer group has become a hub in the community. Whether they work full time, part time or are retired; they all love their volunteer experience at SLVRMC.

There are currently 40 Ambassadors. Joyce has a goal of 60 by the time the gift shop opens in 2007. They care about each other and the hospital visitors. Whether they are delivering a cup of coffee to a anxious relative in the surgery waiting room, or helping find a wheel chair for a discharged patient, you will always find a ready smile and sparkling eyes.

The volunteer group at the hospital has been inspiring people since 1961. One Red Cross Volunteer has logged 40+ years of volunteer service. What an experience!

Come join us! You'll be glad you did. Call Joyce Austin at 587-6290.
